After a successful history doctorate at the University of Sydney, Julia worked in journalism in Australia and in the US, where she was a fellow at the Joan Shorenstein Center for Press, Politics and Public Policy, at the Kennedy School, Harvard University, and a Senior Editor at Newsweek magazine in New York City.
